The Cape
Dory 270 is a Full-Keel/Centerboarder" that offers yachtsmen
a shoal draft boat without sacrificing the safety, stability, or ease of handling
of a "Full-Keel" design." With board up the draft is three feet,
board down, the CD270 draws seven feet, making the boat exceptionally close-winded. The
centerboard gives the helmsman new wetted surface and helm balancing options.
With 9'5" beam and standing headroom, the CD270 has one of the largest interiors of any 27-footer afloat. It sleeps six, has a fixed table with two leafs and full galley with gimballed two-burner stove. An enclosed head with shower stall and a private vanity area separate the main salon from the V-Berth. Other features include eight opening ports, a teak and holly cabin sole and Westerbeke 2 cyL fresh water cooled diesel engine . . . all standard equipment.
Note: The CD 270 is now (as of 2/00) being manufactured on a semi-custom basis as the Hadley 27 by Triangle Marine Engineering Ltd., P.O. Box 208, North Kingstown, RI 02852. (401) 846-2039. They will also supply molded parts. See this short review in Sailing, Nov. 99.
